Similar to our testing approach for all hardware, we integrate gaming monitors into our daily use to simulate real-world home conditions. We evaluate them for everyday tasks on the Windows desktop—recognizing that PCs serve more than just gaming—and thoroughly test their gaming performance.

Desktop use reveals any factory calibration issues and problems with font scaling. It also effectively tests the performance of the panel’s backlighting technology. By using contrasting backgrounds, such as a dark desktop with a bright browser or Explorer window (or vice versa), we can assess how the screen’s backlight responds to varying brightness demands.

This setup is particularly useful for observing auto brightness limiting (ABL) on modern OLED displays.

Fast-paced shooter games are ideal for testing a gaming monitor’s response time, while visually rich games like Cyberpunk 2077 serve as excellent HDR testing environments.

Resolution Resolution is the number of pixels composing a display, defined by width and height (e.g., 1920×1080, 2560×1440, 3840×2160). Higher resolutions offer sharper, more detailed images.
