Are you tired of being broke in Pewter City, unable to even afford basic Poké Balls? Is Sabrina’s Psychic Gym Leader draining your resources faster than you can earn them? Or are you facing the formidable Mewtwo, only to realize you’re perpetually out of healing items because you haven’t mastered the art of money-making? Fear not! This Money Guide Pro is your comprehensive solution.

Welcome to Money Making in PRO 101!

Consider this your essential handbook, or perhaps, “How one dedicated player risked their sanity to create this guide instead of actually playing the game!” 😉

We’ll begin by addressing the needs of newcomers in Kanto, those eager to purchase their first bike or navigate the early challenges. Then, we’ll progress through Johto, Hoenn (brace yourselves – Hoenn is notoriously stingy when it comes to making money!), and finally, Sinnoh, unveiling the unique money-making opportunities in each region. Our aim is to condense a wealth of information and diverse strategies into a single, easily digestible guide. We encourage you to explore the comments section for additional insights and links to other helpful resources. Feel free to contribute your own suggestions as well! Simply jump to the region that aligns with your current progress or interests.

Maximize Your Earnings: The Power of Multiple Accounts

Before we delve into specific money-making methods, let’s discuss a game-changing strategy: utilizing multiple accounts. PRO allows players to create up to four accounts and play them simultaneously. Imagine completing the storyline four times, trading between your accounts, and essentially multiplying your earning potential. By managing four accounts, you can perform all the methods outlined in this guide four times over, quadrupling your income and catapulting yourself to unprecedented wealth. We’re talking about the potential to earn millions of PokéDollars in a single day!

Important Note: Please be aware that due to economic regulations within PRO, it is against the rules to engage in Dig Spots and Boss battles across multiple servers. Focus on utilizing multiple accounts within the same server to maximize your efficiency.

To further amplify your earnings, remember to regularly engage in recurring activities: Dig Spots every three days, Pokéstops every day and a half, Mushroom gathering every two weeks, Boss battles every two weeks, Daily Excavations, and Trainer rematches every week. Consistently engaging in these activities will generate a substantial and steady income stream. Let’s dive into the specifics, starting with Kanto!

Kanto: Beginner’s Bootcamp for Building Wealth

If you’re just embarking on your PRO adventure in Kanto, you’re likely facing the universal trainer dilemma: the desperate need for money. Whether it’s to purchase that coveted bike, stock up on essential supplies, or prepare for the challenges of the Elite Four, PokéDollars are paramount. Even if you’re past the initial stages, the methods outlined below, combined with Boss battles and Love Island extras (for eligible players), can significantly boost your Kanto earnings.

Missions: Your First Stepping Stones to Riches

Let’s start with the most accessible and beginner-friendly option: Missions. As you explore Kanto, you’ll notice officers in various cities offering tasks. These missions are available in almost every Kanto city with a Gym: Viridian, Pewter, Cerulean, Celadon, and Cinnabar. Each city boasts multiple missions, some perfectly tailored for early-game players, while others are more economically viable later on. Remember, missions can only be completed once per account, so choose wisely!

Here’s a breakdown of easily manageable missions for Kanto newbies:

Viridian City Missions (Total Gain: 15,500 PokéDollars)

  • Rattata Hair Quest: A classic starting mission! Teach TM Thief to a physical attacker Pokémon that can also serve as an HM slave (Sentret or Nidoran evolutions are excellent choices). Ensure your Pokémon is unequipped and repeatedly use Thief on Rattata in Route 1. Steal three Rattata Hairs. Return to the officer for a simple yet effective monetary reward. (Bonus: Thief is incredibly useful for item farming later in the game!)
  • Beat Bug Catcher Gerald: Pure profit! Locate and defeat Bug Catcher Gerald in Viridian Forest for an easy PokéDollar boost.
  • Catch a Sentret: Another straightforward task. Sentret appear in Route 1 during morning and day. Catch one to complete the mission. (Tip: Use the Reborn Bot in the official PRO Discord (https://discord.gg/98pMNxq) to check Pokémon spawn times and locations.) Complete all missions in Viridian City for a substantial early-game cash injection.

Pewter City Missions (Total Gain: 16,750 – 25,750 PokéDollars)

  • Beat Brock: Yes, defeating the Pewter City Gym Leader is a mission reward! Talk to Officer Jenny afterward for a monetary prize.
  • Catch a Pikachu: Pikachu, though not incredibly common, are findable in Viridian Forest. Catch one and report back to Officer Jenny.
  • Headbutt Quest: This mission offers a significant payout. Teach Headbutt to an HM slave. The Headbutt TM is located in the Viridian Maze entrance (the tree with a hole in Viridian Forest, north of the southern entrance). Show a Pokémon that knows Headbutt to Officer Jenny. (Tip: Headbutt trees in early routes and cities for a chance to encounter Silcoon. Showing a Silcoon to Officer Jenny yields a bonus reward.) You’ll earn 7,750 PokéDollars without Silcoon, and an additional 9,000 PokéDollars if you present a Silcoon.

Cerulean City Missions (Total Gain: 29,000 PokéDollars + Big Pearl worth 9,000 PokéDollars)

  • Teach Dig Quest: Train a Sandshrew or Diglett until they naturally learn Dig, or teach the Dig TM (TM28) to an HM slave. Show a Pokémon that knows Dig to Officer Jenny. Reward: Soft Sand (increases Ground-type move power).
  • Gem Collection Bonus: After completing the Teach Dig quest, venture into Route 3 and Mt. Moon to dig up Dig Spots. Collect at least two different gems and bring them back to Officer Jenny to receive a Big Pearl. Sell the Big Pearl to the Item Maniac in Route 25 for 9,000 PokéDollars!
  • Clefairy with Cute Charm: This mission requires a bit more effort. To determine if a Clefairy has Cute Charm, inflict poison. If it loses HP, it has either Cute Charm or its hidden ability. If it doesn’t lose HP, it has Magic Guard. Clefairy are uncommon and only appear at night in Mt. Moon. Catch one with Cute Charm (be prepared for a hunt!), show it to Officer Jenny. Then, take it to the girl in the library in Vermillion City for two Rare Candies. Return to Officer Jenny for a substantial cash reward.
  • EV Training Quest: This mission introduces Effort Values (EVs). (If you’re unfamiliar with EVs, consult online resources like Bulbapedia: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Effort_values). You need to EV train a Pokémon so that one stat has at least 50 more EVs than another stat. For example, Attack EVs must be 51 if HP EVs are 0. Show such a Pokémon to Officer Jenny for a reward.

Celadon City Missions (Total Gain: 16,000 – 24,000 PokéDollars)

  • HP Up Quest: This mission offers a significant payout of 14,000 PokéDollars. You need to give an HP Up to Officer Jenny. You can purchase an HP Up for around 8,000 PokéDollars at the Celadon Department Store (net profit of 6,000 PokéDollars), or find one through Dig Spots or hidden item locations for pure profit.
  • Fight Michael (Optional, Requires Bike): If you’ve already acquired a bike (60,000 PokéDollars from Cerulean City), you can undertake the Fight Michael mission. Locate and defeat Michael in Route 17, then speak to Officer Jenny for a 10,000 PokéDollar reward. If you haven’t purchased a bike yet, prioritize the HP Up quest first.

Cinnabar Island Missions (Total Gain: 18,000 PokéDollars)

  • Articuno Seen Data: The easiest and most lucrative mission on Cinnabar. Venture into the depths of Seafoam Islands (B4F – refer to the PRO Wiki for maps: https://prowiki.info/index.php?title=Seafoam_Islands). Locate Articuno (around level 60-70). You only need to encounter Articuno to obtain its “seen” data in your Pokédex – the battle’s outcome is irrelevant. You can defeat it with Rock, Steel, Electric, or Fire moves, or simply relog during the fight to be teleported back to Cinnabar with the seen data registered. Reward: 12,000 PokéDollars.
  • Revive a Fossil: Revive any fossil in the Cinnabar Island Lab (fossils can be dug up or obtained in Mt. Moon). Show the revived fossil to Officer Jenny. Reward: 6,000 PokéDollars and a Hard Stone.
  • Corsola Quest (Skip): This mission rewards only 10 Lure Balls, making it economically inefficient compared to the others. It’s best to skip this one.

Pokéstops: Daily Dose of Freebies

Next on our list of Kanto money-makers: Pokéstops! Have you noticed those peculiar clowns wandering around Kanto? After earning four Kanto Gym Badges, interacting with these Pokéstops once every 36 hours will grant you free items. These items range from basic Potions and Repels to more valuable PP Ups and Rare Candies. Our primary targets are PP Ups and Rare Candies, as they are the rarest and most profitable items to obtain from Pokéstops (approximately a 10% chance for each). PP Ups sell for around 3,000 PokéDollars and Rare Candies for 7,000 PokéDollars in the Trade Chat. Luck on your side can translate to quick and substantial earnings.

Kanto Pokéstop Locations:

  • Viridian City: Beneath the Gym.
  • Viridian Forest: East of the Viridian Maze Tree.
  • Pewter City: Top right corner, east of the Museum.
  • Route 3 Pokécenter: Left of the Pokécenter, in front of the tunnel entrance to Mt. Moon.
  • Route 4: In front of the Cerulean Cave entrance (Surf required).
  • Route 25: In front of Bill’s House.
  • Route 5: In front of the Daycare.
  • Vermillion City (Harbor): Wandering around the harbor area.
  • Diglett Cave: Vermillion City entrance, just inside.
  • Route 10: One next to the Pokécenter, another at the Power Plant entrance.

Bonus Pokéstop Loot: Rarely, Pokéstops can also yield useful TMs for your Kanto journey. The Power Plant Pokéstop may grant TM Thunderbolt, and the Viridian City Pokéstop can provide TM Earthquake. You can also purchase these TMs from the Celadon City Gym (TM Thunderbolt) and Viridian City Gym (TM Earthquake), respectively.

Pokéstops reset every 36 hours. Make it a routine to visit them all every day and a half, and hope for the RNG gods to bless you with valuable Rare Candies! A typical Pokéstop run usually yields items worth at least 15,000 PokéDollars.

Dig Spots: Unearth Fortunes (or Minor Setbacks)

Now we arrive at the true powerhouse of our Money Guide Pro: Dig Spots. These interactive patches of ground have the potential to either skyrocket your savings or playfully frustrate you with basic items like Poké Balls and evolution stones (which, while helpful, aren’t our primary focus for wealth accumulation). Dig Spots require either a Shovel or a Pokémon in your party that knows the move Dig (TM28, purchasable at the Celadon Department Store and other locations, also learned by Diglett and Sandshrew via level up). The Pokémon must also have a happiness level above 150.

Dig Spots are scattered throughout the world. Consult the PRO Wiki for detailed locations: (http://prowiki.info/index.php?title=Diggable_Patches). Digging these spots can trigger wild Pokémon encounters (some rare and valuable for your Kanto journey!) or unearth a variety of useful items, including valuable treasures you can sell for substantial profit.

Kanto Dig Spot Locations: Route 3, Mt. Moon, Rock Tunnel, Route 14, Route 15, Diglett Cave. If you have access to the Sevii Islands (requires Kanto Elite Four completion and an active Membership – supporting the game’s development!), you can also find Dig Spots in Water Path and Tanoby Ruins.

Hidden and Overworld Items: The Scavenger Hunt for Riches

Throughout PRO’s world, hidden items are scattered, often subtly placed. You might accidentally bump into them, triggering an interaction and unexpectedly acquiring an item. Overworld items are more visible, appearing as Poké Balls in the environment. There’s an overwhelming number of items in the game, but for the purpose of this guide – making you rich quickly in Kanto – we’ll focus on monetary items.

We’ll outline efficient routes to maximize your collection of these items alongside Dig Spots and Pokéstops. This will be a more time-intensive process, but the potential monetary rewards are significant. We’ll detail the necessary tools and HMs required to access all locations. For now, concentrate on Kanto locations, as we’re currently focusing on early-game players.

Services and Trading: Early Game Limitations

In the early stages of the game, offering services is the least profitable money-making method. You lack key items like the Macho Brace (diggable with extreme luck or obtainable via trade in Goldenrod City) for EV training services. EV Safari costs 10,000 PokéDollars per visit, and you don’t yet have access to high-level leveling areas like Cerulean Cave. Reliable Synchronize hunting methods are also limited (hunting Abras endlessly isn’t efficient early on, and requiring a Diglett with Arena Trap, while obtainable, takes time as they are Tier 6 spawns).

Trading, however, is a viable option. Sell any Rare Candies you acquire from Pokéstops, Dig Spots, and hidden items in the Trade Chat for around 7,000 PokéDollars each. Don’t accept lower offers. Consider investing a small portion of your earnings (5,000-10,000 PokéDollars) in Kanto Synchronize Pokémon (Natu from Route 28, obtained by more advanced players). These can be used to hunt valuable, immediately sellable Pokémon like Gastly. Gastly are Tier 1 spawns in Vermillion Graveyard (accessible before the 3rd Gym badge), easy to hunt, and require no Black Medallion. However, for now, prioritize building your own team and completing the story. Investing in Synchronize Pokémon for story progression can be beneficial, as later Kanto Gyms and the Elite Four are significantly challenging without a well-trained team.

Bosses: A Distant Goal in Early Kanto

Engaging in Boss battles in early Kanto is nearly impossible and highly impractical. You likely lack a Macho Brace (unless traded for), boss-suitable Pokémon (again, potentially requiring trades), and the resources to build a dedicated boss team. Team options are severely restricted to Kanto-obtainable Pokémon (Slowbro, Gyarados, Steelix, etc.). You’d face resource scarcity and a steep learning curve. EXP services would be necessary due to the lack of Cerulean Cave access. Boss battles are best postponed until after conquering the Johto Elite Four.

However, if a generous player lends you a complete Kanto Boss team, you could attempt it! Boss battles are strategically demanding. For more information, consult the PRO Wiki: https://prowiki.info/index.php?title=Bosses.

Trainer and Wild Battles: The Grind for PokéDollars

If you have an active Membership, battling wild Pokémon becomes a viable money-making option due to doubled earnings. As a last resort after exhausting other methods, consider this. Ideally, refight every Trainer you encounter after obtaining your 4th Gym Badge. Grinding money by battling wild Pokémon in Seafoam Islands B4F, Cinnabar Mansion, and Victory Road B3F while simultaneously leveling your team is incredibly worthwhile, especially if you haven’t yet defeated the Elite Four.

Avoid unnecessary Trainer battles before the 4th badge. Trainer battles reset weekly, so rematch them when you need an extra cash boost!

Reroll Ticket Quest: A One-Time Kanto Windfall

Donating five specific Fossils to the Pewter City Museum (Dome Fossil, Helix Fossil, Old Amber, Claw Fossil, and Root Fossil) grants you a Reroll Ticket once per account (up to four accounts). This IV Reroll Ticket sells for over 650,000-700,000 PokéDollars in the Trade Chat – a massive income boost in Kanto.

However, there’s a prerequisite: you need the “Caught” data in your Pokédex for Kabuto, Omanyte, Aerodactyl, Anorith, and Lileep. To achieve this, you need to revive Dome and Helix Fossils, level Omanyte and Kabuto to evolve them into Omastar and Kabutops for their evolved form data, and then revive Claw and Root Fossils in the Ruins of Alph (Johto) after digging them up to obtain their “seen” data. Revive Aerodactyl in Cinnabar Island.

To bypass the fossil reviving hassle (except for Aerodactyl, Omanyte, and Kabutops in Cinnabar and the two Johto fossils), simply dig up the five fossils through Dig Spots. Then, ask a friend to trade you the five revived Pokémon briefly to register their “Caught” data in your Pokédex. Donate the fossils to the Pewter Museum, claim your Reroll Ticket, and sell it for a substantial profit! This is a one-time, account-bound opportunity.

Efficient Farming Route: Combining Methods for Maximum Profit

Let’s create an efficient route that combines Pokéstops, Dig Spots, and Hidden/Overworld item collection for optimal money-making in Kanto. We’ll outline two route options: one with hidden items and one without. Including hidden items adds time and HM requirements, and item respawn cooldowns vary. Pokéstops reset every 36 hours, Dig Spots every 72 hours, and Hidden/Overworld items approximately every 14 days.

Requirement: You need to have earned at least your 4th Gym Badge (ideally the 5th and HM Surf) to access all Kanto Dig Spots and for Pokéstops to yield items. Pokéstops won’t provide items before the 4th badge and will disappear for 36 hours if interacted with too early.

Combined Pokéstop, Dig Spot, and Item Route:

  1. Start in Viridian City: Go to the bottom left, cross the bridge, and grab the Poké Ball for a Rare Candy (respawns weekly). Interact with the Pokéstop in front of the Gym.
  2. Viridian Forest: Head north, reach the Viridian Maze Tree, grab the hidden Rare Candy behind the tree (use the hidden item guide for precise locations). Interact with the Pokéstop east of the tree.
  3. Pewter City: Go to Pewter City, interact with the Pokéstop in the top east corner, east of the Museum.
  4. Route 3: Head to Route 3, immediately go south. Check the rocks (hidden Stardust in one). Collect all Dig Spots along Route 3.
  5. Mt. Moon Pokécenter: Reach the Mt. Moon Pokécenter, interact with the Pokéstop. Enter the Pokécenter for a relog point.
  6. Mt. Moon: Enter Mt. Moon, go left and south to collect four Dig Spots near the “fat mountain guy” NPC. Go to the top right of the same floor, collect another four Dig Spots. Return near the entrance, go down the ladder. Collect Poké Balls along the path (one contains a Star Piece). Continue down the ladder path to find more Dig Spots. Leave the ladder area, go to the top right again, then left, go down the ladder, collect Dig Spots, and relog in a wild battle.
  7. Dig Shortcut: Use Dig to exit Mt. Moon quickly. Head towards Cerulean Cave entrance.
  8. Route 4 & Cerulean Cave: If you have Surf, surf to the Cerulean Cave entrance and interact with the Pokéstop. (If no Surf yet, skip this Pokéstop and continue to Cerulean).
  9. Route 24 & 25: Go north to Route 24, then Route 25. Interact with the Pokéstop on Route 25.
  10. Cerulean City & Route 5: Go south to Cerulean City, then south to Route 5. Interact with the Pokéstop on Route 5.
  11. Route 9 & 10: Go east from Cerulean to Route 9, then Route 10. Enter the Route 10 Pokécenter, interact with the Pokéstop.
  12. Power Plant: Go north to Route 9, Surf to the Power Plant. Interact with the Pokéstop at the Power Plant entrance. Relog in a wild battle to teleport back to the Route 10 Pokécenter.
  13. Rock Tunnel: Enter Rock Tunnel. Collect the six Dig Spots. Exit from the same entrance. Use Dig shortcut to Lavender Town side. Re-enter Rock Tunnel. Go to the left ladder, collect Dig Spots by going down and up the various ladders.
  14. Lavender Town & Route 12: Exit Rock Tunnel south to Lavender Town. Enter the Pokécenter. Exit and head south to Route 12. Go south and collect the Rare Candy mentioned in the item guide.
  15. Route 13 & 14: Continue south to Route 13 and 14. In Route 14, collect Dig Spots in the southeastern corner.
  16. Route 15: Head west to Route 15, collect Dig Spots.
  17. Seafoam Islands (Optional, Requires Surf): If you have Surf, go to Fuchsia City, south to Route 19, west to Seafoam Islands. Follow the Seafoam Islands item guide to collect items worth around 20,000 PokéDollars. Relog in a wild battle. If no Surf, relog after Route 15 Dig Spots.
  18. Vermillion City & Diglett Cave: Go to Vermillion City. Interact with the Pokéstop in the Harbor. Enter Diglett Cave to reach the last Kanto Pokéstop. Go through Diglett Cave, collect the remaining eight Dig Spots.

Sevii Islands and Love Island (Post-Game, Membership Required): If you have Surf, have beaten the Kanto Elite Four, and have an active Membership, collect Dig Spots in Tanoby Ruins and Water Path (Sevii Islands). Collect the Rare Candy on Route 27 and the Love Island item (if you meet the Dex requirements: 120 Kanto native Pokémon caught and 38 evolved. Talk to Professor Oak in Pallet Town to check progress). Sevii Islands contain many valuable hidden items. Explore them!

Repeat Schedule: Pokéstops every 36 hours, Dig Spots every 72 hours, Items every 14 days.

Enjoy your newfound Kanto wealth!

Johto: Expanding Your Financial Horizons

Welcome to Johto, the second region in PRO, inspired by the second generation of Pokémon games. Similar to Kanto, Johto offers a variety of resources to boost your PokéDollar balance.

Pokéstops: Johto’s Daily Item Haul

Johto features nine Pokéstops scattered across its map, following the same mechanics as Kanto Pokéstops. They offer comparable rewards, including PP Ups and Rare Candies. However, Johto Pokéstops only become accessible after obtaining your 8th Gym Badge. Therefore, it’s recommended to postpone Johto Pokéstop runs until you reach the 8th badge.

Johto Pokéstop Locations:

  • Violet City
  • Union Cave
  • Slowpoke Well
  • Ilex Forest
  • National Park
  • Burned Tower
  • Olivine Lighthouse
  • Lake of Rage
  • Dark Cave (Blackthorn Side)

Dig Spots: Concentrated Riches

While Johto has fewer Dig Spot locations than Kanto (only three), these locations are densely packed with Dig Spots. Slowpoke Well is particularly lucrative, often yielding a high volume of valuable monetary items. Johto Dig Spots are found in:

  • Dark Cave (Violet City Side): Requires Surf, Rock Smash, and Flash (for visibility in the dark cave).
  • Slowpoke Well: Dig Spots are abundant throughout both the entrance floor and the lower level accessible via Surf.
  • Mt. Mortar: Located in the three entrances accessible from the route east of Ecruteak City. Enter each entrance, dig the four spots within, exit, and proceed to the next entrance (west, east, and center via Surf).

Hidden and Overworld Items: Easy Nuggets and Rare Candies

Johto’s Hidden and Overworld items are generally easier to obtain than Kanto’s, with a focus on Nuggets and readily accessible Rare Candies. While not as numerous as in Kanto, Johto’s items are conveniently located.

Bug Catching Contest: A Gamble for Rare Pokémon

The Bug Catching Contest in Johto is an unreliable primary money-making method. First place prize money is minimal, and the contest occurs only once every 24 hours. However, the contest area features incredibly rare wild Pokémon that appear exclusively during the event. The primary focus for money-making here is hunting these rare Pokémon within the 20-minute contest duration and selling them afterward. While a long list of sellable Pokémon exists within the contest area, selling them can be challenging unless you capture a highly sought-after Pokémon like Larvesta.

For more details on the Bug Catching Contest, refer to the PRO Wiki: https://prowiki.info/index.php?title=Bug_Catching_Area

Services and Trading: Expanded Opportunities

Reaching Johto unlocks significant service and trading opportunities. You gain access to the Macho Brace in Goldenrod City, enabling EV training services. Dragon’s Den becomes accessible, and with dedication, you can unlock Cerulean Cave for high-level training. Mt. Silver opens after the Elite Four, further expanding EXP and EV service potential. Johto’s Pokémon spawns introduce new rare Pokémon that can be sold for profit. Synchronize Pokémon from Ruins of Alph and Route 28 are also easily sellable for quick PokéDollars.

Bosses: Building a Team in Johto

While you may not have a dedicated boss team upon entering Johto, building one becomes feasible. Acquire a Macho Brace in Goldenrod, Smoke Balls from wild Koffing and Weezing, Natu Synchronize Pokémon from Ruins of Alph or Route 28, and gather a few boss-suitable Pokémon. A starter boss team could consist of two Memento Weezing, a Sturdy Hazard Forretress, a Screen setter Bronzong, a Paralyser Chansey, and a sweeper Volcarona. These Pokémon are obtainable within the first two regions and form a solid foundation for tackling PRO bosses.

Trainer and Wild Battles: Dragon’s Den Grinding

Dragon’s Den becomes a valuable money-farming location in Johto. With a Membership active, you can earn up to 550 PokéDollars per battle, which accumulates quickly (20 battles = 10,000 PokéDollars). Unlocking Cerulean Cave increases this to 620 PokéDollars per battle. As in Kanto, rematching Trainers after the 4th badge provides another income stream. Grinding in Dragon’s Den while surfing is a recommended method for steady PokéDollar gains.

Johto Farming Route: Combining Methods for Efficiency

Similar to Kanto, we’ll design a route combining Pokéstops, Dig Spots, and Hidden Items for Johto. Remember, Johto Pokéstops require the 8th badge. It’s advisable to focus on Dig Spots, Hidden Items, Trainer rematches, and Dragon’s Den grinding until you reach the 8th badge and unlock Pokéstops.

Johto Combined Pokéstop, Dig Spot, and Item Route (Post 8th Badge):

  1. Violet City: Start in Violet City, grab the hidden Rare Candy behind the Gym sign, and interact with the Pokéstop next to Bellsprout Tower.
  2. Route 31 & Dark Cave: Head east to Route 31, use Dig to cross to the other side, and interact with the Pokéstop. Dig back to Route 31, enter Dark Cave. Navigate using Rock Smash and Flash, dig the five Dig Spots inside. Relog in a battle to return to Violet City.
  3. Union Cave: Head south to Union Cave, interact with the Pokéstop, and use the Dig shortcut.
  4. Slowpoke Well & Ilex Forest: Interact with the Pokéstop in Slowpoke Well. Instead of entering Slowpoke Well, go to Ilex Forest and interact with the Pokéstop there.
  5. Slowpoke Well (Dig Spots): Enter Slowpoke Well. Dig all Dig Spots on the first and second floors (Surf required for the second floor). Relog in a wild battle after digging everything.
  6. National Park & Route 35: Head west from Violet City to National Park, interact with the Pokéstop. Go south to Route 35. Surf and grab the hidden Nugget under the Berry Tree. Relog in a wild battle.
  7. Ecruteak City & Burned Tower: Head to Ecruteak City, enter the Pokécenter (use it as a teleport point). Interact with the Pokéstop in Burned Tower. Grab the Nugget on the second floor inside. Relog in a wild battle. (Optional: Skip the Bell Tower Rare Candy as it’s time-consuming.)
  8. Mt. Mortar: Go east from Ecruteak. Enter Mt. Mortar from the left entrance, dig Dig Spots, use Dig shortcut outside, enter from that shortcut entrance, dig Dig Spots, exit, Surf left, re-enter Mt. Mortar, dig spots, go down ladder, grab Rare Candy north. (If Johto E4 completed: go deep into Mt. Mortar for hidden item in Forest Pit.) Relog in a wild battle.
  9. Lake of Rage (Optional): Travel to Lake of Rage, interact with the Pokéstop. Relog. (Awkward location, only do if desired.)
  10. Olivine City & Route 41 (Optional): Go to Olivine City. Grab Nugget in Lampost at northern exit, Pearl near Gym in small fence, Rare Candy in front of Lighthouse, interact with Pokéstop. (Optional extra: Surf south from Route 41, grab hidden items (Pearls, Deep Sea items) and proceed to Hoenn if requirements met.)

Hoenn: Navigating a Region of Frugality

Welcome to Hoenn, PRO’s third region, based on the third generation of Pokémon games. Prepare yourself: Hoenn is notoriously challenging for money making.

Hidden and Overworld Money Items: Scattered Treasures

The primary challenge in Hoenn is the absence of Dig Spots and Pokéstops. However, Hoenn compensates with a vast number of hidden and overworld items, particularly valuable items scattered throughout the water routes. While plentiful, these items are often widely dispersed, making collection time-consuming. You’ll need Surf to access most of these locations. Deep Sea items become accessible after completing the Hoenn Elite Four, required for accessing Sinnoh.

Despite the dispersion, Hoenn’s hidden and overworld items are a significant source of income.

Services and Trading: High-Value Pokémon

Hoenn introduces valuable Pokémon spawns like Timburr, Ferroseed, and other highly sought-after PvP and boss-battle Pokémon, which can be sold for substantial PokéDollars. Valley of Steel is a notable location for rare Pokémon hunting. Exploring Hoenn thoroughly can yield lucrative Pokémon captures. Hunting Gible on Meteor Falls is also a profitable activity.

Excavations: Long-Term Investment

Excavations are not recommended as a primary money-making method in Hoenn, especially early on. Unlocking excavations costs 100,000 PokéDollars, and each excavation entry costs 2,500 PokéDollars. While excavations can yield rare Pokémon (with Synchronize Pokémon for nature control), artifact pieces (for rare items and fossils), and rare bones (sellable to Item Maniacs), the initial investment and entry costs make it less efficient for early-game money farming. Excavations become more viable in the very late game.

Mushrooms: Bi-Weekly Harvest

Petalburg Forest offers a reliable, bi-weekly income source: Mushrooms. Harvest mushrooms in Petalburg Forest. Bringing a Paras or Parasect will cause the mushroom yield to multiply upon subsequent harvests. Gather mushrooms every two weeks with a Paras/Parasect in your party for consistent, passive income.

Bosses: Optional Challenges

Hoenn presents a number of optional Boss battles, including overworld mini-bosses. Engage in these boss battles every two weeks for potential rewards, including PvP items that can be sold for profit.

Trainer and Wild Battles: Hoenn Trainer Gauntlet

Rematch every Trainer after obtaining your 5th Gym Badge in Petalburg City. Starting from Mauville City (or southwest from Petalburg/south from Slateport), defeat every Trainer you encounter. Hoenn features a large number of Trainers, many of whom are Swimmers, so bring a Surf user. Trainer battles, while numerous, contribute to a decent income stream in Hoenn.

Hoenn Farming Route: Clockwise Item Collection

Hoenn’s farming route focuses on collecting scattered Hidden and Overworld items and rematching Trainers. The route is clockwise, starting in Lilycove City.

Hoenn Item and Trainer Farming Route:

Sinnoh: Returning to Structured Wealth Building

Welcome to Sinnoh, PRO’s fourth and currently final region. Sinnoh, thankfully, offers more structured money-making opportunities compared to Hoenn, including Dig Spots and the Battle Tower (though the Battle Tower isn’t a primary focus for this guide). However, Trainer grinding in Sinnoh is less convenient due to the region’s dispersed layout.

Dig Spots: Sinnoh’s Buried Treasures

Sinnoh reintroduces Dig Spots, scattered throughout the region and often yielding valuable monetary items and rare Pokémon.

Sinnoh Dig Spot Locations:

  • Oreburgh Gate (Lower Level): Surf in the lower level of Oreburgh Gate.
  • Route 203 & Oreburgh City Cave: Cave above Jubilife City (Route 203 area).
  • Eterna Forest Entrance Area: East of Eterna City, before and after the Dig Spot shortcut.
  • Route 212 (East of Celestic Town): East of Celestic Town.
  • Route 214 & Valor Lakefront Tunnel: Tunnel southwest of Veilstone City (Route 214/Valor Lakefront area).
  • Route 213 & 214 (Solaceon Town Area): Routes south of Solaceon Town (Route 213/214 area).
  • Route 216 (South of Hearthome City): Routes south of Hearthome City (Route 216 area).
  • Mt. Coronet Summit (Optional): Dig Spots on Mt. Coronet Summit. (Not recommended due to low yield and difficulty reaching.)

Hidden and Overworld Items: Scattered but Valuable

Sinnoh’s Hidden and Overworld items, like Hoenn’s, are valuable but dispersed. Some are located far apart, such as the Ice Stone near Snowpoint City. However, some are clustered near high-level Trainer grinding areas (Victory Road). Collecting these items, despite their dispersion, is worthwhile.

Services and Trading: Region-Wide Access

Sinnoh unlocks access to all Pokémon from all regions, expanding trading opportunities. While Sinnoh-exclusive Pokémon for selling aren’t as numerous, Pokémon like Heliolisk and Metang can be profitable hunts.

Bosses: Challenging Endgame Content

Sinnoh features numerous challenging Boss battles, reflecting the expected progression of players to advanced and expert levels by this point. Sinnoh Bosses offer high rewards and potential for valuable item drops.

Trainer and Wild Battles: Sinnoh Trainer Circuit

Trainer battles in Sinnoh are less structured than in previous regions. Rematch Trainers after the 4th Gym Badge. Trainer locations are scattered across Canalave City, Pastoria City, the route to Snowpoint City, Mt. Coronet, the southeastern Sinnoh area, and Victory Road. Grinding Trainers requires a more extensive region-wide circuit compared to previous regions.

Solaceon Daily Quest: Seven-Day Streak Rewards

Solaceon Town features the News Reporter Building, offering a daily quest. Show the requested Pokémon (Sinnoh Dex Pokémon only, must be self-caught). Completing the quest for seven consecutive days culminates in a valuable reward on the seventh day, potentially including a Reroll Ticket, Master Balls, and other highly valuable tradeable items.

Sinnoh Farming Route: Regional Circuit

Sinnoh’s farming route is less linear than previous regions, requiring a circuitous path to cover the dispersed Dig Spots, Hidden Items, and Trainers. For time-efficiency, focus primarily on Dig Spots and Boss battles in Sinnoh.

Sinnoh Farming Route (Circuitous Approach):

  1. Canalave City Start: Begin in Canalave City, grab the Big Pearl (south of city), head east to Route 218, grab Rare Candy.
  2. Jubilife City & Route 201: Enter Jubilife Pokécenter, travel to starting town (Twinleaf), grab Rare Candy, return via Route 201 to Sandgem Town.
  3. Sandgem Town & Southern Water Routes: Go south from Sandgem, traverse water routes, defeat Trainers, collect hidden items. Relog in a battle.
  4. Route 203 & Oreburgh Cave: Head north from Jubilife, collect Dig Spots in Oreburgh Cave (Route 203 area), exit north to Oreburgh City.
  5. Eterna City & Route 205: Continue north to Eterna City, enter Pokécenter. Go south to Route 205 (under bike path), collect item, relog in a battle.
  6. Route 211, 216, 217 & Mt. Coronet (Partial): Head east from Eterna, collect Dig Spots on both sides of Mt. Coronet (Route 211/216 areas). Enter Celestic Pokécenter. (Optional: Enter Mt. Coronet, fight Galaxy members, collect Mt. Coronet Dig Spots, relog, traverse Mt. Coronet north exit. Fight Trainers on snowy route to Snowpoint City, collect Ice Stone on Route 217. This Snowpoint section is optional but valuable.)
  7. Route 212 & Veilstone City: Head east from Celestic, collect Nugget, Dig Spots (Route 212 area), southeast to Veilstone City. (Optional: Enter Veilstone Pokécenter.)
  8. Route 214, 213, 222, Victory Road & Sunyshore City (Optional Trainer Route): From Veilstone, go south. (Optional Trainer Route: Fight Trainers south, east to Sunyshore City, collecting hidden items. Explore Pastoria for hidden items if desired, but time-consuming. From Sunyshore, go north, fight Trainers in Victory Road, collect hidden items. Find a wild encounter, teleport back.)
  9. Route 214 & Solaceon Town (Dig Spots): Continue normal route south from Veilstone, collect Dig Spots in tunnel (Route 214 area), reach Solaceon Town. Go south to Route 213/214 area, collect last Dig Spots south of Solaceon.
  10. Hearthome City & Oreburgh Gate (Final Dig Spots): Reach Hearthome City, enter Pokécenter. (Optional: Collect Mt. Coronet Dig Spots if skipped earlier.) Traverse Mt. Coronet to Oreburgh City. Enter Oreburgh Gate, collect last Dig Spots in the lower level.
