Deadpool & Wolverine has officially stormed past the coveted $1 billion global box office milestone this weekend, cementing its place as a box office juggernaut with a staggering $1.029B+ in worldwide earnings through Sunday. The Marvel/Disney blockbuster continues to dominate international cinemas, contributing $535.2M to its global total, while domestic audiences have added a robust $494.3M.

This monumental achievement marks a significant milestone for R-rated superhero films. Deadpool & Wolverine becomes only the second R-rated movie in US cinematic history to reach this billion-dollar benchmark, following in the footsteps of 2019’s Joker. The film is poised to surpass Joker’s $1.079B global gross, likely by the end of this week, to claim the title of the highest-grossing R-rated movie worldwide, further adding to its impressive collection of box office records. Notably, Deadpool & Wolverine achieved this milestone at a faster pace than Joker, although it’s worth mentioning that Joker did not secure a release in China.
For Disney, this marks their second billion-dollar success story in 2024, joining the ranks of Inside Out 2. This accomplishment solidifies Disney’s unique position as the only studio to release back-to-back billion-dollar movies in a single year, a testament to their consistent box office power. Out of the 55 films that have crossed the billion-dollar threshold in industry history, an impressive 31 are under the Disney banner, including titles acquired from Fox. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) alone boasts 11 of these billion-dollar hits, with two additional titles produced in collaboration with Sony, highlighting Marvel Studios’ unparalleled contribution to blockbuster cinema outside of Disney itself.

Deadpool & Wolverine maintained its reign as the top non-local film in key international markets this weekend, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, and Mexico. In its third weekend of release, the film generated a strong $57.8M, demonstrating remarkable holding power with only a 48% drop.
The top-performing international markets to date include: China ($54.8M), UK ($54.4M), Mexico ($38.2M), Australia ($31.3M), Germany ($25.5M), France ($23.6M), Brazil ($22.1M), Spain ($18.9M), India ($17.9M), and Italy ($15.6M). The film’s IMAX performance is also noteworthy, with a global gross of $78M, making it the 6th highest-grossing MCU title in the format.
Deadpool & Wolverine has been an unstoppable force since its explosive global debut three weekends ago, which shattered expectations with a massive $444M opening. Just this past Wednesday, the Shawn Levy-directed film had already surpassed the $900M worldwide box office mark. Prior to reaching the billion-dollar milestone, Deadpool & Wolverine had already outgrossed the total earnings of both Deadpool and Deadpool 2 domestically, internationally, and globally, showcasing its phenomenal success and solidifying its place in box office history.
